Hi, just signed up and wanted to ask a question that has probably been asked before. What is the significance of the back covers. The yellow large GB seems to be on the old books - so do they determine dates, editions or countries? Thanks.

If you see a guidebook for golden books, it will date books by the back covers they have.

Towards the end of Western Publishing/Golden Books...they changed covers almost every other book, try new ones, try the old one, look for orginal films...be careful if that is how you are judging the age of the book. You can also look at the item number, newer reprints of older books like Poky Little Puppy will have the item number of 98100-XX, where the first number was 307.
