In the mid 1980's the pipe was painted out of his mouth on the cover. Around 1989 the pipe was painted out of the inside pictures.

I have been in search for years for a little golden book that I used to read in 1985 when I was 3 years old. It was my favorite book. All I remember about it is one of the illustration where the Father is cutting the bushes with hedge cutters. Anyone know what book this is. As I vaguely recall the daughter has blonde hair.
